Michael Masterson

Co-founder & Managing Partner

Mr. Masterson has 15 years of experience spanning venture capital, start-ups, fundraising, and strategy consulting. Prior to Sutter Post, Mr. Masterson held a number of roles with Bay City Capital, a healthcare-focused venture capital firm in San Francisco, most recently as VP, where he sourced and evaluated investment opportunities and supported portfolio companies across several funds, He also co-founded Nevro (NYSE:NVRO), a medical device company, where he was responsible for strategy, finance, and operations and also was actively involved in raising two rounds of financing from a syndicate of venture investors; the company went public in 2014 (NYSE:NVRO). Mr. Masterson received an MBA from INSEAD and an AB with honors from Harvard University, majoring in Economics. At Harvard, he was Co-Captain of the Division I Varsity Water Polo team and also garnered All-America Honors.

Jack Barber

Co-founder & Managing Partner

Mr. Barber has successfully raised capital for alternative investment strategies and private companies for over 20 years. He most recently led business development for Harvest Capital Strategies, a $2 billion alternative investment firm and wholly owned subsidiary of JMP Group (NYSE-JMP) based in San Francisco. While at Harvest, Mr. Barber also co-managed two funds of hedge funds and led the incubation process for several alternative investment funds on and off the Harvest platform. Prior to Harvest Mr. Barber was chief operating officer of Barbary Coast Capital, a long-short equity hedge fund based in San Francisco. Prior to Barbary Coast, Mr. Barber was Director of Managed Accounts at Dresdner RCM Global Investors, a business within the firm that he helped launch and grow to $500 million in assets under management. Before starting the Managed Accounts business Mr. Barber was an equity portfolio manager in the Private Client Group at Dresdner RCM, responsible for raising capital and managing client portfolios. Mr. Barber began his career in financial services as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs in the equity sales and trading division. He received a BA in economics from Hamden-Sydney College, where he was captain of the football and lacrosse teams. Mr. Barber is also a graduate of Woodberry Forest School in Virginia.

Mark Masterson

Head of Real Estate

Mr. Masterson has spent his career in real estate across investing, operating, and intermediary roles. At Sutter Post, he leads the firm’s real estate practice, focused on sourcing and evaluating direct real estate investment and fund opportunities. Prior to Sutter Post, Mark was a Senior Director of Investments at RealtyShares, focusing on both debt and equity real estate investments throughout the US. Mr. Masterson previously held investment roles at Dwell Finance and 643 Capital Management, and he started his real estate career with Redwood Partners, Inc., a real estate investment firm in Newport Beach, CA. Mr. Masterson graduated from Bucknell University with a BA in Political Science. At Bucknell, he was Captain of the Division I Varsity Water Polo team. He also received All-America Honors and was awarded two of Bucknell’s most prestigious athletic and leadership achievement awards, the Lee S. “Bud” Ranck Memorial Award and Scott Schulte Award.
